PuSh Festival Welcomes New Communications Manager and Associate Producer
June 12 2009 @ 12:26:48 PM

PuSh International Performing Arts Festival Executive Director Norman Armour has announced the addition of new Communications Manager Kara Gibbs and Associate Producer Dani Fecko to the PuSh Festival team.

”The PuSh Festival is about fostering new performing arts practices and practitioners—both on and off the stage. Kara and Dani are fantastic additions to our organization. In a few short years, Kara has acquired a remarkable wealth of knowledge, contacts and experience. Dani is one of the brightest and most respected members of the city’s new generation of arts producers. Together, they are an essential part of our organization’s growing capacity to meet the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead.”

Communications Manager Kara Gibbs is deeply rooted in the new music community of Vancouver. As a freelance administrator, publicist and marketing director she has worked with a number of different performing arts organizations and individual artists and ensembles including Music on Main, Vancouver Pro Musica, The Canadian Music Centre, Young Artist Experience, Gamelan Gita Asmara and the Vancouver Cantata Singers.
Kara is an active composer, and vice-president of the Turning Point Ensemble executive board.

Associate Producer Dani Fecko comes to the PuSh festival with a strong background in theatre and extensive experience as a stage manager. An award winning graduate of Studio 58, Dani has worked in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Seattle and Victoria with an extensive array of acclaimed companies including The Vancouver Playhouse, Neworld Theatre, Touchstone Theatre, Vancouver Opera, Carousel Theatre, Theatre Replacement and Theatre Conspiracy. Dani has also assisted with production management for The Vancouver International Children’s Festival, the Magnetic North Theatre Festival and The Vancouver Folk Music Festival.

Dani Fecko’s internship has been made possible by the generous support of the City of Vancouver’s Cultural Services and the Cultural Human Resources Council’s Young Canada Works program.

GO WEST
April 18, 2009, 1pm
Rio Theatre  1660 East Broadway

Vancouver — A fascinating alternative to the manic stunt work and elaborate sight gags that distinguish the films of Buster Keaton, Go West offers a rare and satisfying glimpse of his talent for more expressive comedy: charming moments of intimate humour flavoured with rich pathos.

Heeding the expansionist call of Horace Greeley, a hapless young man (aptly named “Friendless”) idealistically hops a freight train westward to meet his destiny, first in a teeming metropolis (where he is roundly trampled by rush hour foot traffic) then into the ranchlands of Arizona. In the side-splitting course of his attempts at broncobusting, cattle wrangling, and even dairy farming, Friendless finds himself enamoured with Brown Eyes, a particularly affectionate bovine beauty from whose hoof he removed a painful pebble.

Following last season’s sold out performance of The General, Stefan Smulovitz leads the brilliant Eye of Newt ensemble as they play an original score to Go West. For this one-day-only event, Eye of Newt draws upon preeminent musicians from Vancouver’s internationally acknowledged improvisational music scene, as well as
special guests. The ensemble (known for their Silent Summer Nights evenings of film and music) specializes in playing instant compositions to film. Inspired by the power of celluloid, each and every one of the ensemble’s unique shows brings spontaneous audio life to the great films of cinema.

Single tickets are available through Ticketmaster.ca or 604-280-3311: Adults (+ s/c): Advance $26; at door $30;

Students & Seniors (+ s/c): Advance $22; at door $26; Kids: Advance $9; at door $11.
