The 2009 PuSh Festival Has Closed
February 10 2009 @ 11:53:58 AM
This year's festival took place over three weeks and was chock-full of performances ranging from the funny to the tragic. Ronnie Burkett and his marionettes brought the story of Billy Twinkle to life, Ray Lee's Siren exposed audiences to installation at its finest and Tim Crouch returned to Vancouver with ENGLAND, an amazing piece of work that made us laugh and broke our hearts.

Five Days in March taught us a little about the younger generations in Japan and we sighed at the loveliness of 13 Most Beautiful, Songs for Andy Warhol's Screentests.

We had the English language premiere of That Night Follows Day by Theatre Replacement, with it's diminuitive yet powerful cast of 17 children and Radix's Assembly and its hilarious cast of "motivational" speakers. Urban Crawl's presentation of Nanay: a testimonial play brought audiences into the lives of Filipino domestic workers and the Jury from Surrey and their Children's Choice Awards impressed and amused us.

The PuSh Assembly was attended by presenters from around the globe who shared experiences, projects and ideas, and perhaps encountered partners for future collaborations.

The Festival's Club PuSh created a space where music, art and theatre intertwined to showcase new and emerging talent and produced a whole new and different audience to the PuSh Festival.

Inspiring, fun and thought-provoking. That was the 2009 PuSh Festival.

Thank you to all our patrons, sponsors, donors, volunteers, friends and staff for making the 2009 PuSh International Performing Arts Festival our best one yet!

Join us next year when we kick off the 2010 PuSh Festival on January 20!
