Dean Wareham Reading at Zulu
January 29 2009 @ 10:58:31 AM
Longtime Zulu pal Dean Wareham (Dean & Britta, Luna, Galaxie 500) plans to host a reading and performance at the store (1972 West 4th Ave.) Saturday January 31 at 4pm. He will be reading from his recently published biography 'Black Postcards - A Rock 'n Roll Romance' as well as performing a few acoustic numbers.

This follows Dean and Britta's 13 Most Beautiful... Songs for Andy Warhol's Screentests at the Vogue the night before. If you're a fan of Dean's, Luna, or Galaxie 500, it's a don't miss event.

Based on the crowd at his last Zulu event you will want to get there early!

Siren review, from our pal Kris Nelson
January 22 2009 @ 3:40:32 PM
Hello Everyone out there who loves contemporary art.

I have no stake in this show, but I'd really love to recommend something to you that I saw in New York that you must see.

Ray Lee is a UK sound artist whose piece SIREN is coming to the PuSh Festival in Vancouver after a run at New York's Under the Radar Festival.

The piece is immersive, hallucinatory, simple and sublime. Some number (maybe 21?) devices on stilts with speakers create a stunning chorus of homemade analog sounds that sounds not unlike what I imagine the music of the spheres sounds like.

The pieces begin to move, the sound collides with each other in interesting and odd ways, the audience promenades around the space and the sound collides with itself and we collide with the sound. This piece moved me so much, in many surprising ways. It is beautiful beautiful beautiful.

Please go see it.Then thank Norman and Minna and all the PuSh team for bringing it to the festival.
