London-based theatre artist Peter Reder and sound designer Tom Wallace collaborate with Urban Crawl and local artists to bring us City of Dreams—an evocative performance piece that explores the interconnections between memory, identity and place. The central image of the work is a poetic map of the City of Vancouver made from hundreds of found objects that are assembled during the performance. This physical construction of the city is mirrored by a soundscape composed of sampled and archived audio materials, from sounds of the street to snatches of song to oral testimonies. This unique creative residency envisions Vancouver’s past and present, its real and imagined realities—a city recreated from shards of memory and myth, hopes and sufferings.

“It is unlikely that anyone could experience this beautiful event without being moved in some way.” – ABC Radio, Brisbane

Peter Reder was born in 1960 in London, where he continues to live and work. He creates intimate and thoughtful work, often based on historical sources. His work has been seen in Somerset House in London, Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, National Museum of Singapore, and Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh among others. City of Dreams has been presented in London, Germany, Singapore and Australia. peter-reder.co.uk
