CALL FOR AUDITIONS: 10 teens to perform in West Coast production of Concord Floral
August 02, 2016
Casting call: We’re looking for 10 Lower Mainland area teens to perform roles in Concord Floral as part of the 2017 PuSh Festival in Vancouver, as well as performances in Burnaby and Surrey, in January 2017. Previous performing/acting training and experience are NOT required. Auditions will be held on September 12, 2016 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby.
Concord Floral is a million square foot abandoned greenhouse and a hangout for neighbourhood kids. But something has happened there. Something nobody wants to talk about. Concord Floral re-imagines Giovanni Boccaccio’s medieval allegory The Decameron in a contemporary Vancouver suburb, in which a group of teens must flee a mysterious plague they have brought upon themselves.
The play was written by Governor General Award-winning playwright Jordan Tannahill and originally created by Erin Brubacher, Cara Spooner and Jordan Tannahill with a cast of teenagers in Toronto.
This West Coast production of Concord Floral is directed by Erin Brubacher with original co-creators Cara Spooner and Jordan Tannahill, and is presented by PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Touchstone Theatre, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and Surrey Civic Theatres.
Eligibility:
- Must be 16 to 19 years old
- Must be available: December 3-22, 2016 and January 5-February 4, 2017 (rehearsals and performances)
Performance dates:
January 19-21, 2017: Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby
January 25-29, 2017: PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Vancouver
February 3-4, 2017: Surrey Arts Centre, Surrey
Rehearsals will take place at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby.
Commitment during the above time periods will be after school, on weekends and during the December break—with very limited school absences, to be agreed upon with cast members and their parents. Support will be provided as needed and where possible for cast members to keep up with their scholastic commitments during this school absence. This both an educational opportunity in the performing arts and a PAID engagement in a professional theatre context.
