2015 PuSh Festival Launch: The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller with Sam Green and Yo La Tengo

September 04, 2014

For immediate release: September 4, 2014

The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival and CDm2 LIGHTWORKS are proud to present a one- night only performance of The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 8pm at The Vogue Theatre (918 Granville Street, Vancouver).
The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is a “live documentary” created by Academy Award-nominated director Sam Green, who live narrates the film, accompanied by legendary indie band Yo La Tengo. Together, they set the stage for a remarkable evening exploring the life and times of R. Buckminster Fuller, the 20th century American futurist, architect, engineer, inventor, and author.

Considered as “one of the greatest minds of our times,” Buckminster Fuller (1895–1983) was renowned for his comprehensive perspective on the world’s problems. For more than five decades, he developed pioneering solutions that reflected his commitment to the potential of innovative design to create technology that does “more with less” and thereby improves human lives. He is credited with creating and popularizing the geodesic dome, which has given shape to some of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including Vancouver’s own Science World. Fuller’s connection to Vancouver dates back to 1976 when he was a guest at the seminal United Nations Habitat Conference on Human Settlements (aka Habitat I), along with Barbara Ward, Margaret Mead, Mother Teresa and Pierre Trudeau.

Sam Green is a documentary filmmaker from New York whose previous work, The Weather Underground, about the eponymous 1970s radical anti-establishment group, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2004. Yo La Tengo is a scene-changing band from Hoboken, New Jersey with a passionate following and a 30-year history worthy of its own documentary. They have 13 studio albums and have written multiple film soundtracks.

This launch performance marks the start of celebrations leading up to the 11th annual PuSh Festival, which will take place January 20 to February 8, 2015 in venues across Vancouver. At this launch event on November 12, PuSh will reveal the full programming lineup of the upcoming festival and Artistic and Executive Director Norman Armour will offer a first glimpse of the performances and artists.

Tickets go on sale September 15 at 10am from northerntickets.com, and in person at Zulu, Neptoon and Highlife Records. Tickets are $36.
