Complaints, Confessions and Congratulations

October 25, 2010

A Request from Veda Hille, Musician and Club PuSh Curator

Hello PuSh People!

I am heading up an evening at Club PuSh this winter called Happy Birthday Teenage City, in honour of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary. I will be writing three new pieces for the Vancouver Complaints Choir, and I am looking for your help with lyrics. As listed in this blog heading, I am soliciting submissions in three categories. Feel free to submit in one or all of them, as many times as you like.

#1: COMPLAINTS
Please send me your complaints. This is a general call, and I recommend that you go with your gut on this one. The complaints do not have to be about Vancouver, as long as you are from Vancouver.

#2: CONFESSIONS
Please send me your confessions. Have you done anything naughty in this town? Or something secretive and noble? Would you like to have it broadcast in song? Here is your chance. All submissions will be kept anonymous, of course. Place names would be useful and intriguing for this category particularly.

#3: CONGRATULATIONS
And finally, for a song of Congratulations, I ask you to send me any happy thoughts or memories of this city. A favourite place? A fond memory? A hope for the future? Or just some kind of “good on ya” pat on the back for old Vancouver town.

All submissions can be emailed to veda@vedahille.com. If you wish to be more reliably anonymous you can send a postcard to:

Happy Birthday Teenage City
Box 21547, 1424 Commercial Drive
Vancouver, BC
V5L 5G2

And then come out to the show on January 29, 2011! We’ll be at Performance Works at 8pm with many party guests. Come and hear your city in song.

Thanks for your help.

Veda Hille
