Bathed in luminescence that evokes the glowing urban nightscape of a distant and imagined Saigon, Châu Kim-Sanh beckons the senses through fluorescent haze to her ancestral land.
At home in this intimate space, she explores its perimeter with meticulous motions, entirely from the squat position, a posture deeply ingrained in Asian daily life and culture. Hips, knees and ankles articulate their own bodily language as she lends her percussive rap lyrics to a soundtrack of Vietnamese pop music reverberating from cassette tape.
These melodious incantations vocalize the embodied yearning and fantasized nostalgia widely experienced within the Asian diaspora. Giving voice to communities marked by silence and objectification, rap music forms a prayer that eclipses loss of language and replaces it with self-possession.

Artist Bio
Châu Kim-Sanh
CHÂU Kim-Sanh (she/her) is a choreographer-dancer, filmmaker, and cultural worker. Her stage creations have been presented at the MAI, Tangente, l’Arsenal, l’Écart (Canada), Krossing-Over (Vietnam), Performance Curator Initiatives (Philippines), and SIDance (Korea), among others. In 2023, she collaborated as a dancer with Ariane Dessaulles, Erin Hill, and compagnies Katie Ward, Carpe Diem /Emmanuel Jouthe. Châu has created her compagy MIDLAND in 2024, after 6 years with the company EQUIVOC’. She is also the artistic director of Studio 303 (Montreal) and holds two Master’s degrees in dance (2021) and finance (2011).
