Isabella Rossellini Live On Stage in Green Porno

March 09, 2015

For Immediate Release: March 9, 2015

The Italian Cultural Centre and PuSh International Performing Arts Festival are proud to present a one-night only performance of Green Porno, Live on Stage with Isabella Rossellini on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 8pm at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton Street, Vancouver).

Green Porno, Live on Stage is the iconic Isabella Rossellini’s provocative and comedic performance that explores the fascinating sex lives of land and sea creatures. Originally a popular web series for the Sundance Channel, Green Porno features Rossellini live on stage discussing and acting out the reproductive habits of marine animals and insects, both scientifically accurate and extremely entertaining.

“The secret to Green Porno is that it allows us to laugh but also communicate true scientific information,” said Rossellini. “Because of what I learned in doing the research I felt strongly that there needed to be an added environmental element to really inform people how delicate the futures of these creatures are.”

Rossellini has had a 25-year career as a model with over 500 covers including Vogue, Elle and Vanity Fair. As an actress she has worked on numerous features in both Europe and the U.S. (Big Night, FearlessBlue Velvet), and in television (Napoleon, 30 Rock). Her first foray behind the camera was as the writer and creator of My Dad Is 100 Years Old (2005), directed by Guy Maddin. This film was included in a retrospective of her father, Roberto Rossellini, and his extensive body of work. She made her directorial debut in 2008 with Green Porno.

The Vancouver presentation of Green Porno, Live on Stage marks a new partnership between the Italian Cultural Centre and PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, one that expands the communities and audiences of each organizations. With this remarkable evening the Italian Cultural Centre promotes and celebrates the work of an influential Italian actor, while the PuSh Festival continues to offer boundary pushing performing arts, as part of its PuSh+ presentation series outside its annual January festival.

Green Porno, Live on Stage is written by Isabella Rossellini and Jean-Claude Carrière, with artistic guidance from Muriel Mayette. Lighting design and video is by Antoine Manichon. Translated to English by Julia Groopman. Green Porno, Live on Stage premiered at Printemps des Comédiens 2013, Montpellier (France) and is a production of Les Visiteurs du Soir.

Tickets for Green Porno, Live on Stage go Wednesday, March 11 at 10am from ticketstonight.ca, and in person at Tickets Tonight, $55–75.
