Great Beginnings Initiative & The PuSh Festival

January 19, 2011

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the province of BC, the Great beginnings initiative (a project of the city and province) celebrates the history, heritage and culture of Vancouver’s first urban areas. Gastown, Chinatown, Japantown and Strathcona – often referred to collectively as the Downtown Eastside – are on the list for improvements. This is a unique opportunity to create a legacy in the area of improved physical, social, and economic conditions.

The PuSh Festival is thrilled to take part in this vital program that enables us to present three dynamic productions based out of the historic Woodward’s building. Through Great Beginnings, we have interns working on 100% Vancouver (presented with Theatre Replacement and SFU Woodward’s), PodPlays (Neworld Theatre/PTC produced in partnership with CBC Radio One), La Marea (presented with Boca Del Lupo, SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts, Studio 58 at Langara College, and Theatre at UBC) and Iqaluit (presented with SFU Woodward’s), a unique installation running every day for the duration of the festival. Without the support this initiative, we wouldn’t be able to offer this kind of programming over such a long run.
