Poetics: feedback from the secret dancers

February 05, 2010

Bringing Poetics: a ballet brut to Vancouver required PuSh to have the help of about 35 local volunteers to be the “secret dancers” that appeared at the end of the show. Big huge thanks to everyone who was involved… we couldn’t have done it without you!

It seems that our secret dancers all fell in love with Nature Theater of Oklahoma in the week that they spent with this New York based company, and we’re already having requests to have them back! Here are some of the emails we have received:

“I had the privilege this year to perform with the Nature Theater of Oklahoma as a secret dancer. It has been one of the greatest experiences in my life. This theater company contains such talented and caring people. They are without a doubt some of the best people I have ever met. Not only are they beautiful on the inside, they care to explore the performing arts in wildly creative ways. They force us to see alternative views in a performance piece.”

Genevieve Soo, secret dancer for Poetics: a ballet brut

“I was one of the secret dancers for Poetics. I just wanted to let you know that all of us had an ABSOLUTE BLAST with the Nature Theater of Oklahoma and we would love love love for them to come back to Vancouver. I haven’t been so thoroughly entertained in a very long time (we were fortunate enough to see the rest of the show in a rehearsal). This company is fresh and entertaining and I would love to see them come back to Vancouver… Not only does the cast have amazing talent, but I haven’t met such a down to earth group of people who are beautiful inside and out. And we weren’t the only people to think so, on a couple of nights the majority of the house was on its feet.”

Simone Hanebaum, secret dancer for Poetics: a ballet brut

“A lot of us who were involved in this performance have been affected in a very strong way, and we sure would LOVE to have them come back!!… we’re in love with this company, and we’re sad that they’ve gone!

A dancer friend of mine came to see the show, and she loved it too; I heard that someone came 3 times; my husband, who’s a sound technician and doesn’t even like dance, like it very much also…”

Lyne Hawryzki, secret dancer for Poetics: a ballet brut

“I loved Poetics by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma, and I know they have lots more incredible shows (as I have heard from my dance/theatre friends in NY and seen pictures and descriptions). I’d love to see more. I hope they can come back again soon. It’s great to have different stuff here in the performance scene and they had a very positive impact on our community.”

One comment:

  1. Poetics was so insightful – the arc of human body language from the subtle gestures we all understand in every day life to disco and jazzercise and finally the full-on formality of those gestures in the guise of a pink tutu, toe shoes and the gracefully liquid gestures of ballet. And all of it enlarged by good humour and courage. People in the audience were grinning from ear to ear. It was a delightful pick-me-up with dozens of surprises. Bravo.
