Doireann has a show for us. She’s going to sing a couple of songs, read a couple of poems and maybe tell a few stories. She’s going to be doing a duet with her brother, who’s been dead for 3,104 days. That’s how long she’s been thinking about this show, while everyone has been asking, “Are you alright?” Something’s about to happen here—something dark and scary, perhaps, or maybe something that will lift you up, give you some relief, answer some questions you may have about love and life and death.

Composed with passion, anger and care, this one-woman show is a transformative journey through the soundscapes of grief. I’m Not Here is many things: it’s a ceremony, a rite, a vigil. Creator and performer Doireann Coady will lead you into darkness and back out again, and it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. This is my brother. He’s not here.

Doireann Coady wears many hats—stage designer, actor, director and now, with this new piece, playwright. A fearsome new talent in the Irish arts scene, she is a member of THEATREclub, a collective dedicated to social change through explosive drama.

[T]aking conventional notions of theatre and its audience and shoving them back in our faces, with a few expletives thrown in.
